Mr. Trump has vetoed a $740 billion defense budget bill

US President Donald Trump has vetoed a $740 billion defense budget bill approved by Congress, according to the White House, according to a report by Sputnik News agency on December 24.

Trump used his presidential veto to veto the national Defense Authorization Act for fiscal year 2021, which the Senate overwhelmingly passed. “This bill does not include key national security provisions and runs counter to my administration’s ‘America First’ national security and foreign policy,” Trump said.

After the bill passed the Senate on November 11, Trump reportedly has 10 days to sign it into law, or it automatically takes effect 10 days later without trump signing it. The bill has the support of more than two-thirds of lawmakers in both chambers, enough to override Mr. Trump’s veto.

The draft law includes a range of anti-Russian measures, including expanded sanctions on Russia’s Nord Stream 2 and Turkstream gas pipelines, continued arms supplies to Ukraine, a ban on U.S. -Russian military cooperation and sanctions on Turkey’s purchase of Russian S-400 air defense systems.
